The article is devoted to the study of ways of coping behavior of an emotionally mature personality. Emotional maturity is considered as an integral quality of personality, which characterizes the degree of development of the emotional sphere and psychological mechanisms of emotion regulation. In order to check whether emotional maturity is manifested in ways of coping behavior, an empirical study was conducted. It was found that modern young people have an average level of emotional maturity, moderate development of the emotional sphere and the ability to regulate it. Their emotions often break out. They actively use gestures and facial expressions. They do not control their feelings well, they cannot adjust to an activity if it is not interesting. It is difficult for them to capture and interest others. It is difficult for them to reach mutual understanding in communication. They are not able to get into the inner world of the interlocutor, feel and understand his mood, interests. Connections between emotional maturity and mechanisms of psychological protection – denial, regression, compensation, as well as with the coping strategy of positive reassessment of the problem – were revealed. It was established during the comparison of groups of subjects with high and low values of emotional maturity that emotionally mature subjects are more likely to resort to denial, regression, compensation, projection, confrontational coping, and positive rethinking than immature ones |
