The article considers the national and religious composition of the population of Southern Bessarabia. The ethnic palette of the region was very bright, and the share of Ukrainians was more than 1/3 of the population. Despite the number of Slavs – 65-67% of the total, however, religious life in the region was determined by interfaith disputes, Romanian policy, limiting the functioning of the Church Slavonic, Ukrainian and Russian languages.
