Interpreting Jane Austen`s Individual Writing Style

Abstract

Статтю присвячено проблемам розкриття письменницького стилю Джейн Остін на основі роману “Northanger Abbey” та інтерпретацій його різноманітних екранізацій. Мета статті – довести, що індивідуальний авторський стиль можна реконструювати за допомогою різних стилістичних прийомів, які допомагають читачеві глибше зрозуміти зміст літературного твору і які необхідно враховувати в процесі екранізації. Стиль письменниці характеризується численними факторами, включаючи орфографію, вибір слів, структуру речень, пунктуацію, використання літературних стилістичних прийомів (іронія, метафори, римування тощо), організацію ідей, структуру твору та загальний тон. The article is focused on the problems of revealing individual writing style of Jane Austen on the basis of the novel “Northanger Abbey” and interpretations of its various adaptations. The purpose of the article is to prove that individual author’s style can be reconstructed due to various stylistic devices that help the reader to understand the message of a literary work more deeply and which should be taken into account in the process of film adaptations. An author’s style is characterized by numerous factors including spelling, word choices, sentence structures, punctuation, use of literary stylistic devices (irony, metaphors, rhyme, etc.), organization of ideas, narration structure and overall tone of the narration.
